!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I thought I had read this article before when I glanced at this. Plus, the pictures seemed familiar.
Then I remembered, I read this the other day:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Same author? Nope. Author on io9 denied it and gave a bullshit excuse that they ‘thought of the same criticisms at the same time.’ Despite using the same pictures made solely for the Cracked article.
The Cracked author is, unsurprisingly, displeased
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I think io9 is off my reading list now. Looks like Jalopnik, Oppo, and Deadspin from now on.

Same reasons? Maybe. But the same gifs with paraphrased sections of text from the OG article???
Umm, no. Mweyer would have to be a telepath to have written that without having seeing the cracked article first.

He leaves Jaloppositelock
Hahahahaha, why would you go and do a damn fool thing like that in the first place?
![]() 05/17/2015 at 18:52 |

Huh?
![]() 05/17/2015 at 18:53 |

Why... would you leave jalop/oppo...? It’s a humorous statement.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 18:55 |

I wouldn’t leave Jalop/Oppo. That’s not what I said.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 18:59 |

I thought you exaggerating. I thought the replies were exaggerating. I then looked at both articles and HOLY SHIT you lot weren’t exaggerating.

The first part, in quotations, is my thought process. “ahahhahahaha this individual has, in the past, chosen to leave the JALOP/OPPOsphere for his reading pleasure”
The second statement is my reaction to your prior choices.

Really sad. Really blatant. I wonder if they'll pull it or change stuff secretly and hope no one notices.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 19:18 |

So far, nothing is happening, and my guess is that’s what winds up happening. They’ll be silent and they won’t pull it.

Theyre still getting hits. They give no fucks. It’ll be changed soon.

Not just copied, copied poorly. Good chunks of it made no sense due to um, parallel idea bit loss.

This, the Louie CK “rumor” that was top rated yesterday, a screengrabber post from March(tl;dr author confuses two different black people, quickly edits it and denies any wrongdoing), and a certain Jelopnic author just proves that Gawker media is bullshit first and entertainment second.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 19:26 |

I haven’t been to Gawker on purpose in ages. It’s awful. Jalopnik and Deadspin should be their own things.

Sometimes I like watching trainwrecks. When I break it down and look at why I read some of these things I really feel like I should get a hobby.
Then I refresh...

Would be nice if they had more to go on than an anonymous source’s anonymous sources. Still though, I’m hoping it’s bullshit. Please o please let that be rumor mongering bullshit...
![]() 05/17/2015 at 19:40 |

Sounds like rumor mongering bullshit. I wouldnt be too worried (but, you never know) since there hasn’t been any direct allegations. They are literally basing this off of anonymous emails and internet comments. BRB, have a Kim Kardashian-Furry rumor to start!

Wasn’t there another gawker “writer” who blatantly plagiarized for a long time?
![]() 05/17/2015 at 19:47 |

Probably.

I’m curious which Jelpnic author you are referring to.. I hope it isn’t Torch - his stuff is.. inspired.. but still quality imo. Patrick is good, Travis - good, Mate - great (it rhymed, but he’s good), Damon isn’t memorable at the moment and this new chick is.. new. Who did I miss?

All content within the article has been removed. That link as a whole will probably go dead soon.

Update: Looks like they did the right thing.

Theyre all fine to great. Let’s leave it at that.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:35 |

Actually, Mweyer plagiarized the Cracked article on the Observation Deck. It was promoted to the io9 main page. Just like an Oppo post being promoted to Jalopnik. No full time, payed, io9 or Gawker writer plagiarized anything. Is io9 responsible for checking? Probably. Are they human and capable of missing something because the internet is a really big place? Probably. Is this an example of reaping what you sow when you create community forums and sub-blogs with the express intention of mining them for free content? Probably.

io9 offers a heartfelt apology.
Sure, just apologize your way out of possible criminal charges.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 22:47 |

Holy shit, it was word for word plagiarized. Pathetic.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 23:12 |

lol, what are you talking about
![]() 05/17/2015 at 23:14 |

You do realize that plagiarism is 100% illegal and punishable by law. It’s a pretty serious offense in this country.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 23:18 |
|
Only if Cracked sues io9.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 23:19 |
|
Which they totally can if they want to. io9 admitted to the plagiarism.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 23:24 |
|
Then they took it down. So I think plagiarism is really only able to be legally pursued if it isn’t removed.
![]() 05/18/2015 at 14:19 |

Yeah, TheBaron needs to do some homework just as io9 needs to start doing their homework.
![]() 05/23/2015 at 00:46 |

What do you mean “probably”? If they’re putting something on their homepage, it’s the bare minimum requirement for the editors to make sure what they’re promoting isn’t stolen.

If it requires a private party to sue another private party, it’s not criminal. It’s civil.
